Maks is one of a small number of Dalmatians worldwide that carries two copies of the desirable SLC2A9 gene therefore every puppy he produces will have one copy of the gene and therefore Low Uric Acid (LUA)! Emily has one copy of the LUA gene so we expect some of these puppies to have two copies! This beautiful litter is the result of breeding an outcrossed female back to her sire. I believe that homozygous puppies from this litter will be very useful in incorporating the LUA gene in other bloodlines. They are very healthy and consistent.

Day Fifty

I was too tired last night to report the results of the hearing test so I will let you know now. All 8 puppies can hear in both ears!  This litter is awesome if I must say so myself. All 8 are very pretty. All 8 have dark eyes and good pigment. All eight are bilateral hearing. All 8 are LUA. I think I should just stop breeding now because I will never top this litter. I have been told that any one of these puppies would be pick of a lot of other litters.

When we got to the Vet for the hearing test we had to wait about an hour after our appointment because Dr. Gardner was doing an emergency surgery. She is an amazing Veterinarian.  It is an hour drive to the Vet so the puppies were already in the crate for an hour when we got there. Before we got there we stopped at a grassy area to let the puppies go potty as we didn't really want to put them down in the grass at the Vet's in case a sick dog may have been in that grass. They all did their business because they didn't want to soil the crate.

I am laying on my blanket you gave me Mom and Dad. I can't wait till tomorrow!
Love Gracie (formerly known as Mayflower)

This is the last time all 8 of them will be together as they are starting to go to their new homes tomorrow.

  1. We're glad to see that Gracie likes her blanket and that she's sharing it with her brothers and sisters. We hope it makes her feel more at home with us. Can't wait!
