Maks is one of a small number of Dalmatians worldwide that carries two copies of the desirable SLC2A9 gene therefore every puppy he produces will have one copy of the gene and therefore Low Uric Acid (LUA)! Emily has one copy of the LUA gene so we expect some of these puppies to have two copies! This beautiful litter is the result of breeding an outcrossed female back to her sire. I believe that homozygous puppies from this litter will be very useful in incorporating the LUA gene in other bloodlines. They are very healthy and consistent.

Day Thirty Nine

As 2012 winds down how I wish the puppies would too! When I came home from work they serenaded me in 8 part harmony. After I let them all run around the house they finally tired themselves out. Now a few hours later they are ready for another romp. All I w ant to do is go to bed. I am sure 2013 can make it's way in without my participation. Happy New Year to all of you!

Cranberry looks so much like her Mom in the face! Emily has a beautiful face and I never get tired of looking at it.

When they got tired from playing and running about they found a place to sleep. I thought it was funny that the 5 girls got in one crate (below)
The three boys chose another crate to nap in.

Day Thirty Eight

The best part of today was the fact that the puppies and dogs let me sleep in. I get up at 4:30AM on work days so sleeping until 8:00AM was like a gift.

I got a chance to watch them and see them move across the floor and Macy trots everywhere she goes. That is a sign of a good mover. I think she is very cute and petite. For those of you that have never witnessed the birth of a puppy the mother cleans the placenta from the puppy and chews the umbilical cord. I usually let mother nature do what is natural and only step in if there is a problem. Unfortunately, during this process in Macy's birth Emily accidentally nipped off the tip of Macy's tail. Very heartbreaking as I believe she may be the pick of the litter.

Day Thirty Seven

Snow at last! It was a beautiful day with lots of snow. The puppies had visitors today and they had a very good time getting lots of lovin' from Lisa, Carol and Jack. Only dog people would come out on a very snowy day to get to play with puppies! They came bearing gifts too! Carol brought the very best cookies I have ever eaten and Lisa brought me a precious picture of Uncle Indy and also a beautiful hand crafted necklace and earrings. Lucky me! The puppies played themselves out and slept most of the afternoon. I am too tired to identify the puppies in the pictures so you will have to guess!

Day Thirty Six

TGIF.....

I had two days off this week and it still felt like the weekend would never get here. I made the appointment to get their BAER hearing test today so I will know whether my predictions are correct or not. They get tested on Jan. 10. They will be 7 weeks old then. This evening I trimmed the puppy's nails again. They were so good for it! They really are sweet loving puppies.

Week Five

Well the puppies are five weeks old already....that time flew. I weighed them today and the smallest is Macy at 5 lbs 7 oz. and the largest is (you guessed it) Gobblegirl at 7 lbs 13 oz. They have managed to catch up in size with the last litter although they were much smaller at birth. All seem to be very healthy and robust! I believe it is one of the prettiest litters that I have had. All have very pretty faces with very dark eyes and have ear sets that frame their faces perfectly!

Emily decided that she would feed them again after her breasts got too full and must have been uncomfortable. It appears that she has not produced as much milk today!

Day Thirty Four

I am concerned about Emily. She has so much milk but won't let the puppies nurse. I keep checking her to make sure her breasts aren't getting red or inflamed. I know she is weaning them and I am trying not to interfere but it is worrisome. I cut her food back hoping that will help her to quit producing milk. My poor baby girl.

The puppies had a visitor today. Marion who owns a litter mate to Emily came to get a puppy fix! She fell in love with Pumpkin.

Today's pictures are faces and the tunnel.  First face is Cranberry
 Kennedy, Pumpkin, Mayflower and Pilgrim
Indian reaching to get picked up.

Day Thirty Three.... Merry Christmas!

I got to stay home today and watch the puppies all day. I put some things out for them to walk on, crawl through and jump over. They had a very good time! At this age they have short bouts of play but still sleep a good deal of the time. Bizzi is so happy that they are here. She was a wonderful mon and is an equally good Grammy. Garrett does what he always does when there are puppies. He says hello and then hides from them. Maks grrrr's and woo woo at them but then he runs from them.

The first three pictures made me laugh out loud. Poor little Indian fell asleep half way in the nest. You can see how fast asleep he was because it is a different puppy beside him in the third picture.

Mayflower at play. She was shaking that toy so hard she feel over.
