Maks is one of a small number of Dalmatians worldwide that carries two copies of the desirable SLC2A9 gene therefore every puppy he produces will have one copy of the gene and therefore Low Uric Acid (LUA)! Emily has one copy of the LUA gene so we expect some of these puppies to have two copies! This beautiful litter is the result of breeding an outcrossed female back to her sire. I believe that homozygous puppies from this litter will be very useful in incorporating the LUA gene in other bloodlines. They are very healthy and consistent.

Day Twenty Three

I have not been able to post for a few days because my modem died and I had to wait for Comcast to make a service call. Annoying to say the least.

In the past few days the puppies have graduated from the swinning pool to an extra large crate bottom. Now is the time they realize that they can leave the nest to relieve themselves. They haven't quite got that together yet but they will in a couple of days. I will start the weaning process shortly by giving them a soupy mixture of goat milk and ground up puppy food. At this point Emily is producing more than enough milk.

The first picture is one of Daddy Maks laying as close to his family as Emily would permit.

The two pictures above are of Grandma Bizzi helping with the clean up duties.

A couple of the puppies wanted to help Emily with the meal.

  1. Can't believe how much the puppies have grown since your last post! Glad your modem issue is resolved and I can get my daily puppy fix. They are all adorable! Emily is looking good, too.

  2. I can't tell you how much we're enjoying watching the puppies grow. Love the one trying to share Emily's dinner. I'm sure they're having great fun in their new, bigger home. We check the blog every day and ooh and aah over each new picture.
