Maks is one of a small number of Dalmatians worldwide that carries two copies of the desirable SLC2A9 gene therefore every puppy he produces will have one copy of the gene and therefore Low Uric Acid (LUA)! Emily has one copy of the LUA gene so we expect some of these puppies to have two copies! This beautiful litter is the result of breeding an outcrossed female back to her sire. I believe that homozygous puppies from this litter will be very useful in incorporating the LUA gene in other bloodlines. They are very healthy and consistent.

Day Thirty Eight

The best part of today was the fact that the puppies and dogs let me sleep in. I get up at 4:30AM on work days so sleeping until 8:00AM was like a gift.

I got a chance to watch them and see them move across the floor and Macy trots everywhere she goes. That is a sign of a good mover. I think she is very cute and petite. For those of you that have never witnessed the birth of a puppy the mother cleans the placenta from the puppy and chews the umbilical cord. I usually let mother nature do what is natural and only step in if there is a problem. Unfortunately, during this process in Macy's birth Emily accidentally nipped off the tip of Macy's tail. Very heartbreaking as I believe she may be the pick of the litter.
Macy found the new bag of puppy food
Even the plastic that bottled water comes in becomes a toy
 Indian and Pumpkin
 Got Milk?
Indian and Gobblegirl find a Coke bottle very entertaining
Macy and Pumpkin join Indian in "spin the bottle"
 Time for a drink
Carol you can go to bed early tonight!
